U.S. Space Park

The tall rockets that carried the United States into the space age were displayed by the NASA and the Department of Defense in a two acre park next to the Hall of Science. Standing tall and upright in launch position were Atlas and Titan II rockets, with a Tiros satellitie and Mercury and Gemini capsules as their payloads. On display was a Project Mercury spacecraft that had orbited the earth, a Gemini two-man spacecraft, a model of the Apollo which would carry three astronauts into orbit, a lunar excursion module that would land on the moon, the lower portion of a Saturn V moon rocket, and a full scale X-15 rocket powered research airplane. Aeronautical engineering students were available to act as expert guides.
